My
genre tends towards still-life
and like most still-life painters
I admire the 17th century Dutch
masters, such as Pieter Claesz.
I have also been influenced by
the contemporary art of the Italian
hyper-realist painter Luciano
Ventrone. There is a simple harmony
to his compositions: a perfect
balance of lights and darks, warms
and cools and a sensibility to
the placing of objects on the
canvas. I love the richness of
colour pitched against the sobriety
of the foreground and the ensuing
tranquility. My technique draws
upon those methods used by artists
of the Renaissance. My works are
strongly tonal and are created
using multiple layers of oil paint
on linen.
